Loosing our animal companions can be a difficult and emotionally distressing event. That is especially true in this community where our pets are cherished, nurtured and loved. But when the inevitable finally becomes reality, we are faced with difficult challenges, both emotionally and logistically.
What do we do? How do we do it?
Our family faced those decision earlier this year when our large Lab, ‘Sarge’, was in his end of life struggles with Degenerative Myelopathy. In our search for options and alternatives we reach out to a friend whose dog had past away last the previous year. Without hesitation, she recommended Angel Paws, and proceeded to describe her experience.
When we were ready (it’s a decision which took some time for us to accept) I called Angel Paws to inquire about at home euthanasia. They explained the process, the options, and the cost. Several hours later a woman arrived at our home. She was compassionate, empathetic, and caring, both for our family and for Sarge. The process and procedure was unhurried, painless, peaceful, and respectful. She gave us as much time as we need to be with our friend before he was prepared for transport. He looked like he was peacefully sleeping, covered with fleece blanket as we carried him out to her vehicle, and slid the stretcher on to a special carrying device.
Angel Paws made that difficult event, not easy nor emotionally painless, but tolerable in knowing that we could not have made any better end of life choice for our pet.
We highly recommend Angels Paws. Khaki laid in her favorite spot in the comfort of our home, while she was put to rest. We were able to pet and comfort her as she was put out of her misery. We were given alone time with her and then watched as they placed Khaki on a stretcher and covered her in a blanket. They kindly folded the blanket so her head was still exposed. Then we were encouraged to give her one last kiss goodbye from the passenger side. While I still get a lump in my throat thinking of our sweet Khaki, we are so pleased that we called Angels Paws to aid us at this difficult time.
We spread her ashes in the Ohio River that was Khakhi’s Heaven on earth. We are sure she is happy and free from pain there. Thank you to Angel Paws.
Tammy and her staff are exemplary. I had two very ill Labs, Sadie and Riley. I had been giving them gobs of needed meds for over a year. In March of 2011, I realized that I needed help
Tammy and a staff member came to our home and evaluated both Sadie and Riley. At that time, the thought was that they were still happy and my husband and I made the decision to enlist the support of Tammy and her staff. I lost count of the many phone calls that I made, much less additional visits from the staff.
By August of 2011, we realized that they both needed rest and peace. The process was handled with extreme dignity….Tammy even brought along a therapist!
We were given two little bags of “kisses”. One said, kisses from heaven, love Riley. The other, kisses from heaven, love Sadie
Never, ever hesitate to call Tammy regarding any concerns you may have regarding your wonderful, beloved pet.
Angels paws is a much needed service and I am profoundly grateful for them and their care
Tammy and the staff at Angel’s Paws are wonderful. They have helped us with our dog Boomer and our cat Sappho. Just knowing that you have the support of professional people who care is so helpful. They help with medicine dosages and different ways of giving medicines (transdermal to cat’s ears for example). We signed up for the 24 hour support in case we needed them in the middle of the night. It’s such great peace of mind to know that you don’t have to load a dying animal into your car and take them to a sterile vet’s office for their final moments. Boomer got to eat a bunch of treats and sit with us all as we cried and laughed and told funny stories about him as we just let him go. Sappho got to stay in her bed as we gently petted her and said our goodbyes. They really are angels at Angel Paws.
We used Angel’s Paws last December for our beloved dog Phyloh. I’d seen some recommendations on tplist for Angel’s Paws, and our vet also recommended them. It was one of the most difficult phone calls I’ve ever made, but after explaining our options the team at Angel’s Paws was able to schedule at-home euthanasia for him later that same day. Though it was December and a bit cold, they were happy to accommodate our request to have his last moments outside on the deck. They were great with our young kids as well, encouraging them to pet him one last time and letting my daughter help carry the stretcher.
While it was certainly a difficult time, I am so glad that we chose Angel’s Paws to help us all through it. They were incredibly respectful of our dog, of his dignity and of our wishes.
